Hey , I just eyeballed the thing for about 45 minutes and I cant work out whether to stretch the boot or put in a panel.
The boot is going to be visually longer and that aint real cool .
The gutter on the new parcel shelf is rooted so it would be easier to do a panel .
But I have to weld back in what I cut out - not so bad I suppose.

I dunno , can I have some input here , Ill go photoshop it so you can see it ...

To my eyes, I reckon lengthening the boot would look far more natural than not. Maybe a small panel made up to extend the area under the window (in conjunction with a longer boot) so the opening isn't toooooooooo long, but I think it would look kinda weird when opened if you left it standard/short.

So , The taper on the boot seems a little hard to deal with but no biggie .
The boot will extend easily , Ill just double the pressed hole area on the underside .
and the panel behind the window will hopefully look alright doubled in length from the original . that means one weld across instead of two .
And after a squinting session I think extending the rear guard opening helps with the longer boot so tomorrow Ill extend them somewhere around 1 - 2 inches , It will help with the twennies kid61

I went ahead and started stretching the drivers side rear wheel arch , added in 1.5 inches then started looking at the repairs needed in the lower lip area and inner guard , It would be easier to cut off the outside of the inner guard and run it across to the quarter and tack it on all the way .
Looked at the rust in the boot and the &*#@ tank to go in , then cut the entire boot out

now there is very little stopping from tubbing it - actually nothing but registration

I guess I have to go ahead and repair everything then cut it out at a later date to make the authorities happy

What I think could work with the boot to parcel shelf gap is cut the whole boot out and move it forward so the rear window to boot gap is stock, then patch the inside of the fins to give the (mick jagger) extended fin look, if you know what I meen

Boot floor

Thanks for the tip Trev ,It sure is in the equation right now .
Looks like nothing is going to be the easy way through so Im still unsure which way to work it .

The parcel shelf has some repairs under the window apperture , in this pic you can see the boot spring , speaker hole and the repair , also the gutter is gone .

Extending that short panel to double the length means seperating the spring brackets from the parcel shelf and moving the the same distance .
Id also like to shorten the parcel shelf , 8 inches further forward is almost at the front of the wheel well and just looks too far forward for where the seat will be comfortable - I want the kids to ride in it for years and not run out of legroom. and when they are older and start borrowing it Well sometimes you just need a back seat

Does this boot look too long ?

It looks good when the roof line flows back down to align with the rear of the wheel arch,
ie; looking at a profile of the car,
the bottom of the rear window should point to the
top rear corner of the wheel arch.

the angle of the rear of the wheel arch and the angle of the rear window are similiar.

Following that theory, where does that put the wheel arch piece you have cut out?
Could it be angled back a little more to match the rear window?

I hope this makes sense to you

Totaly Jeff ,I always think that too but totally overlooked it , lucky , thanks Ill be heading in that direction completely .
Its going to need to come outside again so I can grab a picture of the boot length aswell Trev
