Coming along nicely mate .........

Just throwing ideas around here, but Ive always wanted to see and fb/ek done with an FE grill ... the prob I find with the FE grill is that they sit too high to look tough ...... yet the shape of the grill is meaner then the 55 chev shape as it slopes at the bottom outwards ( in my opinion  ).

Would be a bit of panel work but I think it would looks insane on your 2 door, plus you have the skills to get it done  I wouldnt split the fe grill to open the bonnet, but rest the ek panel against the grill. FE blinkers would probably work well also.

Hey while we are on the topic of bumpers ,Has anyone heard that welding with a mig causes oxygen bubbles when the bars have been chromed .
I have heard the same and that you have to use TIG, check with a chrome plater if you are going to get them chromed and see what they say. You could always tack them with the MIG and take them to someone to final weld.

Harko, I dont think the 56 bumper works. Even tho its a nice shape it dosn't flow with the car, unless you have some magic your gonna work on it. It's a shame the stock fbek bumper is so straight from a plan view. Mind you, it could look good frenched in, like on a Borgward.

Harko, Had a play with paint, but I'm no geek. I tried laying a ZH Fairlane bumper over the front to see what it would look like? Dunno???

Hi all thanks for the suggestions on the bar , I think Ill let it sit for a while and see if Im influenced by something I see , and or maybe I should leave it the way it is .....
Theres a lot of merit in using the rear bar and it can be trimmed to flow better .
The Dagmars I think are too prominent although I see the EK look bumper under the dagmars ;
The &*#@ bar " No freakin way" :D
I think if you go a little too far and loose a cars heritage then you have to go all the way and make it unrecogniseable, I dont want to be in between .
The best outcome to me is someone notices it drive by quickly and thinks "was that an EK"

I just cut up some 55 guards 2 days ago  reason is Im running the guard lips in the 54 (they have none) but Im not real keen on the look .
I actualy like the EK grille very much , If I can Ill just widen one to suit and take out the curve on the base bar

Anywayz I got the white walls on today , gotta go down in rear profile tyre .

Check out some of the pics of the Victorian Hot Rod Show,
in particular, The two Cusso's (Pics 5&6.)
they have a very similar bumper to yours on a similar shaped car to yours.

Also check out the 57Chev with the dagmars removed (pic 4)
That could look good too.

Keep up the good work

Cheers
Jeff
Hey thommo we are totaly on the same page , I was actually looking at cusso bars when I started to consider the bumper
I like the 57 without the Dagmars (Why the hell are they called dagmars)
and I agree if the 54 bumper was made to fit the contours of the EK it would work - it works on cusso's and 55 56 chevs

Thanks V8EK4US , I think it all depends on the front tyres clearance , I want this way down over the tyres so I need the front low profile - maybe slightly higher than right now but it will be registered with these on and maybe changed later.
With the wheel up under the guard it will be harder to see the profile.
The rear then needs to be a slightly taller profile to the front in my opinion . But again Id like the guard to be over the white and close to the rim .

Had a laugh to myself when doing these guards , I was thinking what Im doing is trimming the fat off the old girl , I like EKs but they look flabby haha and Im just slimming it up .
I thought - I wonder how many guys in the club married women of the larger variety seeing as we all like FB EKs :o

Anyways my update will be that Ive welded up the 60 odd holes in the subframe from Junee and its at the sandblasters ready to be picked up tomorrow in primer .
Trimmed a little more fat from the guards

And Ive decided to add a tapered band of sheet metal all the way up along side the gutter - guard to bonnet .
This should broaden the gap between the headlights and toughen up the front a little , Its a big job for little gain but in the end I will be happy.

Ive also been thinking over how Im going to spray the roof , Instead of using lace I think Im going with a repeating pattern of the mooneyes decal , and instead of a distinct border as Devilrod used
Image
I think the mooneyes will be sunken below a subtle flame edge , under the gold candy.

I spose Ill be setting up the v8 shortly with the subframe back tomorrow the painting the subframe also in the gold....Happy days
