Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Hi Clay, if you take the cover off the tunnel and the small vent off the top of the bellhousing you may be able to just see enough of what's going on .. and even lubricate sliding bits if that's what's required. Patrick

Fronts.
I need to take them off and finish cleaning I know, but can't stop driving if long enough.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
I've got a set of those hub cap thingos for my chromes as well. Seem to fit well.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
I’ve got a set of the push-in Samson caps, but need to find some of the “fits on with 4 or 5 self-tappers” variety. Some of the scrutineers are the drags get a little fussy about caps.

Love them Clay. That’s what I was thinking. Have you got a full car pic? Have the same on my tool trailer. F*#% pattern though.

Oh yes, the "five-self-tapper" mag wheel caps . . .
My niece's husband's CL Regal had them. Now all that's left are five broken self-tapping screws in each wheel, courtesy of electrolysis.
Rob
PS - a certain HT 350 had the push-in caps. Lost a couple at Amaroo Park before the developers bought the circuit.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Getting sidetracked is my specialty, up there with disturbing the neighbors late arvo tranquility. So imagine my joy when I finally found a source for 14" x 6" outer wheel casings and started grinding out the spotwelds on these HT rims this late afternoon. $110 each from Custom Steel Wheels at Blair Athol. Now I can set them up to just clear the front of top ball joint on lock. The stock 5" HT rims clip the weights at 105mm backspace and p30 offset for a track of 1381mm, which is slightly l was than the stock 54.5" or 1384.3mm. With maximum allowable track being 1410mm, I can afford to reduce the backspace by 2mm each side, just enough to nicely clear the weights.
Wonder if anyone knows of a better way to scab the centres out of these? I've done one so far and used a whole garnet disc.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Why not drill through it ? Gives you a spot for 2 nice big meaty rosette welds in each "spoke"
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
I had two types the center spot welds like yours and welded at the join along the back. I used a 25mm hole saw and drilled the ones like yours out the other type I could just slip a grinder in and cut the welds splitting the center and the band.
The guy who welded my 7s puts just the center on the lathe and mills quite a bit off the back of the center. So those big spot welds would be all gone. The reason he said the shorter that is the less flex you get in the rim and easier to balance plus more clearance for brake calipers.
Recip saw works really quick aswell

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Thanks fellas. Yes I did think of drilling blacky but I usually have trouble keeping my bits sharp. Other rims I’ve had have been welded as Clint describes, along the edge of the centre. Hole saw not a bad idea thanks. Also, though I don’t have a lathe, I could try and evenly cut the edges down on the centres.

Unsure if the late is big enough but it would go close I reckon.
