I guess pricey is dependant on what you're trying to achieve. I wanted either 80 profile radials or original size cross ply because that is the modern size that matches the original car. I have already invested heavily restoring the original diff so tyres that fit the rim but not the engineering are not for me.

Yep. Understood. And you've paid the money to get your original ratio diff restored.
My FC's diff had a leaking pinion oil seal, loose pinion flange, and munched-up pre-load shims. And I'd never found a 3.89 completely free from gear noise, so I binned it and for $100 slotted in a 3.36.

Clay - if Nankang offered a 185/80R13 I'd be very happy.

They look like Bridgestone super cats to me. Reckon the nankangs are LT also?

I guess the point of all this was centred on not being able to put 185 radials on 4.5 rims. For the ute with its non standard 6inch mags (or chromes) I have Sumitomo 185 r80 13 and very happy to have them. They just aren't an option unless you change rims. Hence the post which I'm now starting to regret😃 searching for wider rims that hubcaps fit.....

The tyres I posted are radials that fit 4.5 inch rims for those that are looking for that option. The first I have seen anywhere.

For everyone else with non standard rims there are quite a few options which we are all aware of I think.

The cars look great Tim. Personally I wouldn’t run 185mm tyres on 113mm wide rim. Unfortunately these days they are about all that is available tall enough when running original rims.

185s on 6” rims with correct offset will drive a lot nicer and I reckon they look good if not entirely stock.

Fair enough Tim, and you have the cars to back it up. None the less you will find that many, if not most tyre fitters will be reluctant to fit 185 80 13 to 4 1/2” rims. As your screen shot shows they are on the margin of conformance.

Did s bit of a rough survey at the logbook day this morning. There were 5 cars sporting factory rims.

3 running 185/70-13
1 running 175/70-13 tyres looked bit small.
1 running 185/80-13 looked a bit over tyred to me but best stock look.

I still reckon 175/80 will suit me, but may only be available in light truck. Are they too agricultural for a dainty FB Ute?

My current plan is to put Bridgestone R623 commercial tyres on the ute. I've had them on some vans and utes before

They sound and look good Patrick. 608mm diameter says they are 80 profile. My local bloke is a Bridgestone select dealer, though you wouldn’t think it.

I have run 185/70/13s on the stock rims, daily driven for 10 years. They perform well.

The only sidewall issue I have had was when someone (who shall remain nameless) made a spirited exit off tarmac and onto shale. Managed to break the bead and deflate the tyre.

Cheers,

Ah yes - the notorious "air-out". That's why I use tubes on any pre-'65 Holden with standard rims.
