Firewall doesn't need to be modified for 253 or 308 into FB/EK to my knowledge but I'll leave the complete answer for required mods to the fellas here on the forum who've done 253/308 into FB/EK to fill you in on the details required.

Auto trans fitment into any FB body will need an aftermarket trans tunnel welded in as the FB didn't have an auto option and the existing trans tunnel isn't big enough to fit an auto.

EK Hydramatic auto bodies had an enlarged and braced trans tunnel to fit the auto.
3 speed manual EK bodies had the same trans tunnel as the FB's did.

Cheers,

Terry.
I can't think what to write here so this will do.

You can definetly fit a SBC into the bay without modifying the firewall.

I cant imagine the 253 requiring more space then a SBC but Mick could tell you straight up the possible problems with the aus motors.

Hi All, The 253 has a wider "V" than the small block chev. which means you have to modify the firewall to suit...Cheers Mark

you could probably get it in but would then need to do mods at the front for radiator
it doesn't need much if you looked at mine you would probably not even pic it
even with this slight massage i think the 253/308 is still an easier conversion

Mark "ekv8ute" Ute in Batemans bay that Ratbox built has no mods to the firewall ,Not sure about the front - didnt realy focus at that time of night  I will say I was realy impressed with how nimble it was on its feet ,Nice power , great cornering and great stopping ,It felt very responsive ...
Changed my mind about 308s in the old girls , hint hint
