Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
I have to replace the passenger side inner subframe leg. I am trying to decide whether to make up a jig or fit it to the car and weld. I’m leaning towards making a jig do I can get access better.
Previously I have simply recessed about 10mm of the stump then slipped the new leg over and lap welded. Also offsetting top and bottom joins.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

My two cents' worth: Repair instead of replacing. The effort that goes into making a jig is better spent doing the actual repairs. Reviewing your photos on the previous page, the subframe leg doesn't look rotten enough to warrant a cut'n'shut.

Thanks Rob. I’ve been thinking that way a bit.
I love my little crane
got her up to a comfy working height to do the holes on the front corners of the floor now.

Bit more done. Driver side floor and a pillar bottom is all welded up.

Nice big drain hole left on the pillar bottom. Couple of patches on the floor in the corner and on the side next to the front seat mount.

A few more little bits.
nothing devastating. The inner body to subframe mounts needed a good clean out.
They were chock with dirt and the floor above was starting to rust through. The mounts and body member themselves being thicker steel seem solid.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
No time to work on the ute
Had the drain snake on the gurney out to unblock the waste this arvo. Put it to work on the subframe and gave it a good flush out. A lot of decomposing vegetable matter came out. Got most of it but can’t get the snake up the inner legs past the engine mount plate bolts. I will have to take them out. Next thing I will be pulling it all apart so I can do it properly.
Cleaned the steering box up at least.
Prolly just leave as is. With my sedan I fitted a grease nipple to the filler plug and just pumped it full of moly. Anyone else have a take on this?
Cheers

Another thing I am wondering about.
anyone replaced the nylon trunnions?
I have four manual columns here and none of them have these intact. Would certainly tighten things up.
