Hey Taz
In my small amount of knowledge on the subject I have always believed that most off the shelf headers or extractors, which ever you wnat to call them, are not tuned which from what I'm gathering is what you are taking about.
I have thought that tuned headers have all pipes the same length this assists the engine with scavenging of other cylinders and gas flow; this is really needed on high performance engines where gas flow etc. are paramount.
Happy for others to correct this and educate my basic knowledge.

Yes that is what i am saying. I think primary lengths around 830mm is what I should aim for but i also read that as long as the primaries are within 100mm of each other all is fine.FireKraka wrote:Hey Taz

G'day Taz,
Can you still get good access to #2 and #8 plugs? Looks tight, but hard to tell from the photos.
I think I might need to get a mini-me to change the #8 plug on my wagon
... need pixie-fingers.

Hi guys the length and diameter of the pipe really depends on a lot of different factors including compression,cam lift and duration,rev range stroke etc. there are a few good programs to work it out.. the one I used for mine was pipe max but you will need all the info about every aspect of your engine to work it out.. and I don’t think that there is a free version for it so you would need to find an engine builder that has it. And at the end of the day I think you will have big dramas trying to get it all correct in such a tight engine bay and the gain in power probably isn’t worth the hassle unless you are chasing every horse or quarter mile time

After just spending an hour playing around with the pipe lengths, positions etc I have come to the same conclusion. Which is that there is not enough room, i will try to get the lengths as equal as possible but fitting it all in will be the deciding factor. So a few hours spent today finishing off mounting the radiator. Bit more welding to do etc. but will do that when its on the rotisserie.

I havent got any pics of the underside sorry. Its the castlemaine rod shop front end with the ls mounting kit and exhaust kit. The starter motor gets put on the passenger side to make more room for the steering.
