steering rack length

Post by Marko »

Hi Guys,

just wondering if anyone can help with the length of a modified LH torana rack cut to suit HR front end. Front mounted from thread to thread on rack arms.
If anyone has a spare CRS or similar I would be interested in talking. Cheers Mark :?

OK - number is 04 1960 61 62

Rack length is as per pics - I couldnt measure it how you wanted because its on the hoist and they are on a fair angle ( and I was too lazy to unbolt them)
35mm between castings

255mm between centres of mounting bolts

Much appreciated, thanks heaps for taking the time. Over the years there seems to be loads of pro's and con's regarding the front mounted steering rack.
Currently I have concluded for a 308 it seems the best option. Does anyone think the extra cost of rear mounted VB, C or H rack is warranted. It is loads more expensive considering the column change, sump cut etc.
Advice welcome. :) :? Thanks guys, Mark

I wouldn't have another front mounted rack setup unless it was on a LH/LX front end ala Gaz's black beast and others , after driving a V6 conversions rear mounted setup. The rear mount setup took a bit to get right with steering shaft angles but it was a lot easier than trying to get tie rod clearance , etc with a front mounted setup.

Again thanks heaps Blacky, you may get a call from the guy (REG PELL, MARLIN COAST MECHANICLE,CAIRNS) helping me with the project, is this ok. He has started the rack mod but needs measurements. We are also talking to Alien retro regarding specs. WOW its all adding up $$$ but worth it. I have had the van for 12 hears now and against friends and family recommendations cant wait to complete the project.
