Still not back on the road yet Matt
I'm hoping by the end of the week
I have been given the royal stuff around
I finally found someone to make me up an axle
But I still have to fix the reason as to why they are snapping - new rear end basically

If anyone can recommend a decent mechanic in the eastern suburbs of Sydney I am all ears.
Someone that can (and wants to) work on old cars would be great.
Unfortunately I don't have the time or space to do things at the moment and my car has been sitting at a mechanics for a month while I've been doing the leg work to get it fixed

Ive been going to Auto Express at Kingsford. Never had a drama George is a great bloke and always has a couple of old cars in the shop. He is a valiant man at heart but I think he enjoys driving my EK's he just won't admit to it  Steve Clair takes his ute there also.

There used to be a carby specialist in Matraville I used to take my heaps to many years back, though he did most mechanical work. Not sure if he's still around.

His name was Nick Shumak..........not sure what the actual shop was called. I think Maxi Service Centre, or something. A mate had a 351 XA that had 8 Autolite carbies on it. A lot of well known performance shops tried to get them to run right, but couldn't. This guy got them singing in tune like a well trained choir.

Stu raised a good point. A lot of mechanics know how to work on these old cars. Not a lot want to.

He is just around the corner from Stu on Beauchamp rd.

Thanks for the leads guys

Yep I was speaking to Nick about my axle. He personally didn't want to deal with it but did mention some leads and was helpful at the time. Unfortunately the leads didn't want to deal with it either

And my (ex) mechanic actually admitted to me that he had the skills and know how to work on my car but said 'I just don't have it in me anymore' in other words 'I can get heaps more cash from changing oil, tyres and globes on Asian cars theses days'.

Hey all, Im narrowing an EH diff and was wondering if the axels can be machined down and resplined or is it best to cut and weld them? I have a friend that can weld them and it wont cost me anything (they will be done to a high standard) but would have to pay to have them machined and splined, trying to keep costs down but not really keen on dramas with weak snaped axels, Ive heard that they need to heat treaded again if there machined and resplined? anyone no for sure. also where would be the best spot to do the weld on the axel or would it not really matter.
Cheers for any info.
Shaun.

Ps great site ive spent hours reading and looking, heaps of good info, Not good for progress on the car though!!

Gday 63eh
You can shorten the housing by about 1 1/2" per side and just fit LC LJ torana axle's, or
Cut all the brackets of a torana diff, weld on early holden ones, and bolt the whole thing in.
