Where the hell is Yamba N.S.W.???
My first EK was the one out of " running on empty" - I worked for the film company and wanted to buy the `57 but couldnt raise the $8000 required to buy it so I bought the EK for $1500. This was in 1981 and I was 17. Got my licence in it and proceeded to thim out stock of axles and gearboxes at the wreckers in the sutherland shire area for the next six months until the mighty grey cried enough doing rollbacks when pissed out the front of Sylvania pub , the things we do eh ?
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Hi Jay, sorry I missed your post, I was getting all fuzzy about FB 219's in Honey Beige!
That's great Jay, I had the same thing happen with my first car, the HD. It had the dizzy cap fail so the guy tried new leads & put them on the wrong way. A bit of fresh fuel, leads on the RIGHT way Bingo!
Yes, I moved to ST Marys when I was five. Lived in Nth St Marys until I went on the road in bands at nineteen. I was known then for EH's. All those FJ's in Rooty Hill do ring a bell. I have only owned two FJ's, a sedan & a Panel Van.
Hi Greg, great story, Hope to see the Chev EK at Yamba, is it still Cap Coral?
Hey Mick, I remember Government Road. In the '60's it was called Commonwealth Rd, in the eighties it became Foresters Rd...Go Figure. Ah.. you rolled the EK, that's where you got the obsession of lowered lids
Hi Blacky, $1,500 was a lot for an EK in 1981. Do you still have the car?

G'day Blacky,
That 57 was owned by a fella in Georges Hall, (Darren Gaucie) as far as the truth has it of what I was told, back then he purchased it only 1/4 done at the time and finished it off himself. I used to go to Condell Park High with his nephew (Steven Gaucie) He showed me the car whilst it was being finished. I think it was that day on I had a admiration for the American Classics.
Now I'm pretty sure Smooth would know him also, as he was a local of the area as well.
Regards John

Hi Oldnek (John) I retired from playing in 1992, family commitments were the priority. I put the '59 Fender Strat & '63 Twin in the cupboard. I played in lots of bands, some on drums. Didn't really do much as far as commercial success, though most of the other guys (in the band) went on to do some big things. I guess my claim to fame was not being a star, but serving them!

Hey Ray and Igor, Great to see the enthusiasm from SA, I too have just booked into the calypso, It is a fantastic place to stay. It is only two blocks from where we propose to have the show'n'shine, three blocks from where the dinners will be held and there is some beautiful scenery and drives to be had. McLean is a 15 minute drive and is little Scotland. I hope to be able to pass out more info on the itinery of the nationals in the coming months and everything seems to be on track. Yamba is already geared up for road closures and petrol fumes as they host a big Rod'n'Kustom event there every year, So bring on 2008.
