Re: Grey motor cylinder head identification

G'day Harv,

Did you ever find a way of identifying heads?
I thought I read somewhere once that there were tell tale signs but I can't find that thread anymore.

I have an EJ block in an FB but I'd like to know what the head is. Do they all have the same part number - 7412811?

cheers

P.S. I'm ...

good idea Valleymistique (sorry couldn't resist the ek / ique bit  ) I'll keep looking.

Tim, the car is on the north side (Bald Hills / Brackenridge) and as of tonight, outside at a mate's place snugly tucked up in a very expensive cover. We dropped the car off and I pulled out my newly ...

cover

I hear ya Trev,

Yeah, there's a few that claim to be 100% water proof and I've gone for that option in the short term. I've gone for one that claims to be water proof and has ventilation holes etc. so that's a short term fix. I'm just a little sus on them that's all.

I'm off for at least another ...

Help needed with storage out of the weather

Hi there all,

(I guess this is where this post goes?)
I have moved away from SEQ for work and for one reason and another, I have decided to leave my car in Brisbane. This has now provided me with a headache as the shed I have been storing the ol' girl in is no longer available. I have been ...

"He can fit the belts without drilling that ugly hole through the B pillar on the ute."

Here you go Mephious,

You can see there is NO room and the firewall has been massaged with something heavy in order to accommodate the triples.

The knowledge and advice passed on through here never ceases to amaze me and I appreciate it very much.

I don't have a significant wiring / voltage issue but I will eventually (eg when I put in a wireless and muck about with an alternator) and this thread and many others are very helpful from a ...

Today I got 265kms from 25litres on the highway. I think that's nearly
30mpg? I'm amazed and she wants to fly. 'Go' the grey power :).

Here you go Mephious,

It's not a brilliant shot. I'll try to take a better one later.
You can kinda see that there is NO room next to the firewall.
The intake flute is right under the regulator and nearly touches the firewall.

Can't get my bloody hand up there. I tried for a while but after
squeezing my hand, dropping the bloody nuts and bolts a dozen times each
and trying to hold them in place with tools too big for the job, I thought
"bugger it, they're only coming off when I get ...

Well I can say for sure now the triples are fantastic. Still haven't got
them to idle as low as I would like but they are otherwise dialed in
and initial testing is very pleasing. They seem to provide good fuel
economy and loads of revs when needed.

I haven't done anything scientific regarding ...

Hey there,

My fire wall has been bashed into submission for the sake of 3 SU's.

However, I have since heard of "offset" manifolds to suit grey motors that
solve this problem.

Never seen one but it may be worth ...

Thanks Devilrod,

I got it open but not sure how to pull it apart to get to the bit that's
binding. The cable seems to be ok.

I'll persevere for a little longer before looking at buying another one.

Cheers

:)

Right I got the casing off and now....

There seems to be something binding or catching the shaft as it tries to
spin. Maybe just a bit of dust / grime / age related muck? The shop
manual says if there is a prob send it off to a specialist to have it fixed.
Sigh. Anyone a specialist speedometer ...
