V8UTE4us.....project scrapped 26/04/2010

Post by V8EK4us »

I found this about 10kms from where I live  , after all the searching I can't believe that this was just around the corner. There is a nice selection of rust in the usual places but the best bit is that it is original paint, never resprayed, just a touchup on the bottom of the front guards (after a rust repair) and a new tailgate skin and spare tyre door.

In the back is a set of FB guards with "eyebrows" and an FB bonnet with the bonnet bar...... no blistering on any of the cast alloy parts... BONUS! Also spare starters, hubcaps, grilles, gearbox, wheels etc......

The motor was rebuilt 10,000 miles ago, ute was on the road up to 2007. Seat and door trims redone in 2006 and still look reasonable.

It is a shame to cut this up

The old guy that owned it loved the Black Sedan (I drove it there to check out the ute, as you would!) and said he would love to see the ute looking like that

This will be built to be my daily driver.......... :D I had grand plans for a ute, now I have seen it and touched it I am not sure what which way to go.

I'm goin to say mild! You have the wild already so let's see what you can do with subtle mods, but hey that's what I prefer, comes down to what you want at the end of the day ...

What driveline you going for?

And how do you invision it?

Nice looking starting point!

Cheers

Leave the outside alone and copy the sedan running gear ???
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

the idea you were talking to me about would have to be a must   you could dual cab it (maybe, as long as it didn't interfeer with big tubs
i think you'd be a bit dissapointed if you got out of the black beast and into something "mild".
just my opinion, but you did ask :P

Leave it like it is Gary, then you'll have two cars from each end of the rebuild spectrum.

Ask me how much fun it is driving an old bomb around

Do something different, put a victa two stroke in it and get ahead of the rego authorities 'cos that's all we'll be allowed to fit in our cars very soon.
I can't think what to write here so this will do.

Ahhhh Gary !!!! You have balls !!!

Damn mate after almost finishing my red one ........ I think im almost over cars  (maybe just need a little time to enjoy it). So hats off mate at contemplating another build !!

As for this ute however

I went with wild - still daily driver.

I say go a big block chev 454 nothing insane. Maybe a single carb (proform 950) should pull about 580hps at the flywheel and still naturally aspirated with the right internals.

Image

If your concerned with economy 454 on LPG. Id take advantage of the registery up there in darwin. Might be a matter of shunting a kingswood chassis for the BBC to pass. Would make a nice vehicle to tow with.

Black Ute with convos tubbed
454 BBC with under bonnet induction
350/400 turbo box (maybe transbrake!! )
tubbed 9inch and make it easy with a disc/drum combo (bbc alone will make this thing be one of kind). Will reduce the tub size also and give you more tray area with drums on rear.
Tow bar
