rear guard question

Post by matches »

i know this may be a stupid question,
as far as the rear guard lip is concerned should it be parallel to the wheel/tyre or does it come closer to the wheel the further you go back along the car?
ay help or pics to show how it should be would be greatly appreciated,
luke.

yep, thats what i'm after. damn! mine come in at least an inch by the time it get to the back of the horizontal part of the guard on both sides, i didn't think it looked right, i'll post some pics tomorrow and hopefully someone can give me some guidance (hopefully with a bit more professional finshed product than by using a BFH)
Luke.

I may have this rear orifice up - but from what I can see.... it would appear someone may have "flared" out the centre section of the upper lip - possibly to fit wider wheels/tyres.......
Is there any sign underneath that this area has been "encouraged" with a RFBH?

From underneath the whole length of the inner guard above that lip should run parallel.....

Sorry for swamping your thread.... something in these pix may help..
My panels have not been altered from factory........ pending "rolling" inner guards..... but these are "original" shape.....

thanks rosco, those pics are exactly what i needed. the problem with mine is that the whole passenger side quarter was replaced (badly) and it looks like they matched the other side as far as the guard lip lines are concerned, the problem i've found with that is the drivers side guard has had a pretty big hit too so they lined up the new guard to one that wasn't straight to start with. so all that really means is more work for me :( :) :?

Ooops
forgot to mention Luke - if you see the pic with the dotted lines along the underside of the lip - these were made by clamping a ruler to the brake drum exactly vertically - and dotting along - they may be helpful in that you can see the angle of the arch back in towards the inside of the car as it passes rearwards.... there is a central line which marks 90 degrees vertical from the centre of the axle....

if you need more - I've got 'em.....

nah rosco, those pics helped out heaps, got it back looking like it should.
just had to grind off the bad welds, get the outer guard back to the right position then massage the inner guard back out. bottle jacks and blocks of wood do wonders.
now i've just got to find where i put the mig in the move and i'll be back on track.
thanks for the help,
Luke.
