Go figure. 2 days ago we were still keeping one eye on the sale ads for an EH/EJ wagon, and then out of nowhere we decide to check out an XP and hey presto, she's ours. Should be in my driveway by the end of next week.
Looks to be a reasonably honest car - good paint job, manageable rust, interior good, needs some mechanicals but drives and stops. Will be a daily while I take the EK off the road for some work.
Will post some photos when I can.
Cheers, Scott

Neither. We drove all over SEQ today looking at a heap of XPs and XMs, and ended up really happy with a green sedan listed on ebay. Turned out to be a much nicer car in person than in photos...pretty happy with the structural integrity of the car and extremely presentable. Most others we looked at were quite disappointing once we looked in person - lots of rust, bog, dodgy paint, crap interiors, and poor mechanicals were the order of the day.
The one we bought was a noticeable stand out and will be a welcome addition to the fold.
Cheers, Scott
Sweeeettt!!!
Just got her home tonight. Engine's a little rough and smoky but overall the car is as good a base as I could hope for. Mucho happy!
Too dark for photos but I'll take some tomorrow and post 'em up.
Cheers, Scott
Finally snapped a few shots of the car. Booked in tomorrow to get a roadworthy and full brake overhaul. Hopefully won't have any other issues to get rego'd.
I've painted up a set of original steelies and have ordered a set of whitewalls which should arrive midweek. Looking forward to getting rid of the mags - really don't like what they look like on the old cars.
After that, just get her dropped a few inches and ready to cruise...
Yep, she's in pretty decent condition. Bit of rust in the front pans but no real surprises...also small spots in a couple expected places but all manageable and no concern.
We were intending to add another old Holden to the garage but have always had a soft spot for 60s Fords and when this one came up, just decided to change our plans a little...
My 7 yr old son was quick to point out when we first looked at it, that "it's even cooler than the EK"...lol If he's anything like me, he'll end up having a hard time trying to narrow his tastes down to any one badge - there's just too many damn cool cars out there.
that looks awesome. congratulations. my soft spot are the 62 xl falcons. selling sedan at the moment. boo hoo.... but have v8 ute stashed elsewhere... hooray. great colour dude.
enjoy,
jim
Finny - side mouldings are in dire need of attention. Several of the clips are missing and it's all sitting a little skewif. There's a few dents in the mouldings as well, although that doesn't really bother me as we'll be keeping this ride kinda rough'n'ready.
Craig - we'd looked at a heap of X series before this one and most that were in our price range were total rust buckets...they looked good in photos but many dark secrets lurking beneath the surface. This one has its issues of course, but is essentially a good solid car and was affordable. Had we stepped up our price bracket there were some really nice coupes on the market that we'd looked at. Had to keep our goal of some old US tin in the back of our minds though,so we didn't get carried away and spend more than what we'd set aside...lol.
Matchew - whitewalls fitted tomorrow, original hubcaps on the way, venetians in the pipeline.
Basically she'll be a cool, no-frills kinda ride. Just wanna keep things nice and simple and enjoy cruising.
Roadworthy was passed this arvo, and taking her in for new tyres and then straight to rego tomorrow.
Thought I should post up some more recent snaps of the car - made a few changes since we bought it:
Lowered, rims, whitewalls, exhaust, new clutch, bullets, trim, venetians, built new boot floor. Had gearbox issues but that's sorted for now. Engine will be in need of a rebuild wihtin 12 months, maybe 2 years. When the time comes, we'll either stick with the 170 pursuit or (if it's not worth a rebuild), look at something bigger. Either way, we'll be ditching the 3 spd and finding a good auto.
It's turned into a fun knockabout kinda ride that has served us well.
looking mate, still love the look of the early falcons
