any idea of a price to do sucha conversion would be good

Matchew,
My SU's cost close to $300 bucks each to rebuild and the manifold was a swap meet bargain. With all linkages and tune cost almost $1000 bucks!
and that was six years ago!!!
Wouldn't change them though

yer they r not a cheep item mine owe me about 700 but i love them and as i have said they do make a difference bit hard to get the manifolds as they r not that common as the normal twin carbs

I sold a set 12 months ago on a Thomas manifold all linkages for $150- but i got em for nothing.

i would say plan on a $1,000 what ever you have left between that and $500 is a bonus
