hi all

thought it might be a nifty thing to have if we all contribute a couple of specifically FB-EK related tips that might make life easier when working on our rides.

ill start - if you want to remove your temperature sensor, use a spanner. if you use a socket, you will break the top off of it.

If you want to improve the performance of your car, stick in a red motor!

For most Grey Motor users out there as well as any engine that has a mechanical fuel pump,

If you run out of fuel and the fuel pump is lazy, remove the air filter and place the palm of your hand over the top of the carby sealing it tightly. Get someone to crank the engine and fuel will be drawn up there in 1/4 of the time.

Soldering Tip.

Finding it difficult Soldering the corroded wiring on the old girl, use lemon juice on the wire to clean and help the solder stick. Ahhhh! smells good to when it burns off, leaving that nice citrus aroma.

Speaking of sumps  ,although I haven't done it, from my measurements an LC/LJ sump may also be used in lieu of an EH sump in some early Holden fitments although some modification with heat and a hammer may be required.

Laundry powder cleans hands better than anything else..
Tablespoon of powder and a drizzle of water to make paste in palm of your hand.

Be aware, Gets hot and starts to burn once you mix with a little water, so scrub good and fast.

Rinse well..

just a handful of things I have learnt along the way

Lowering the ass end

1. when installing lowering blocks put a jack under the leaves, that way if your lying near it you wont be scared shitless when it almost crushes your skull :D

2. check seatbelt bolts to see if they are rubbing on the tailshaft before you get a mate to come out and go over your brakes,

3. when cutting off U-Bolts make sure there isnt a leaky petrol tank above your head.

Engine choice

1. dont believe people when they say you can recondition a grey motor for about $500

2. Make sure you are prepared to buy a fuel pump, water pump, thermostat, thermostat housing and a flex plate when you buy a COMPLETE engine

Buying a Car

1. If you dont like the colour the car is, dont buy it

2. Buy something with a red motor if its gonna be a daily

General

1. Dont choose to recondition a motor 3 weeks before your P plates

2. Always use jack stands

3. Purchase a trolley jack and jack stands if u dnt already have them

4. Set out a clear plan of what you are going to do and stick to it!

5. DO THE BASICS FIRST, ENGINE & RUST then move on to customizing
