Window Rust

Post by J »

Just wondering what the best way to approach window rust is?
I know I will have to pull the windows out... which is done by removing the trim, and some of the rubber?

If the lip that holds the glass in is rusted out best to cut offending piece out of another wreck and weld in or if you are lucky you may get away with just a strip. I had an XR Fairmont that was rusted 10mm either side of the seal lip so i cut the piece out of another car and welded it in.

you can buff rust off glass with cerium oxide mixed into a paste with water, you should be able to get a cup of it for about $10 from a glass cutting shop, it will also add shine and take out fine scratches, usually a special felt buffing pad is used but i have comprimised with wool pads and hard foam pads. mega keen bastards do it by hand.
