I am replacing the front guard on my ute with this guard, it has surface rust in parts, but besides that it is a lot straighter then the one that was on my ute and the bonnet now shuts really good.
What shall I do to treat the surface rust with once I have stripped the guard back to bare metal.
Does anyone have any good products I should use and is there any good products I should use on it before I start priming it before the color coat.
Look forward to your replies.
Thanks
Jason

Mate, do yourself a favour and get it sandblasted. Its a shit load easier and quicker.
Otherwise sand it to bare metal and then treat it with rust converter, as found at any paint suppliers.
Have to agree with malcolm. Im in the stripping back stages of mine and although sanding and a flapper disc do work sandblasting is so much easier, gives a good finish and saves a hell of a lot of time. Cost wise is pretty good only about 50 bucks a panel and thats with them priming it for you to. Have heard soda blasting is great but no one in my area does it so might be worth looking into
Make sure you pick a sandblaster that knows how to correctly sandblast a guard without stuffing it.Bead or soda blasting would probably be a better alternative.
I've got two FB guards that were straight and rust free originally and were given to me by a mate after he sent them to a sandblaster who managed to blow holes right through the guards in places therefore now rendering previously good guards to be now only good for patch panels
sorry should have mentioned that there are some cowboy blasters out there, just make sure you go to a sandblaster that works in a bodyshop not just a general one who will have a go at anything you ask him to
