Engine Numbers

Just reading some of the other comments on engnes and the numbers used for the different models. I'm now unsure what engine my car actually has in it, and if it's the original.
The engine number starts with a "J" it's "J149457". Is that what the EK's had? Is it a 138 ? What's it out of ?

'J' prefix = EJ I think.
The experts will know
Is there a Doctor in the house? :P

Thanks, thought it was different.
Dr Terry must be doing house calls.

Was the EJ engine the same or did it have different specs / performance / etc.

The EJ engine is the one to hot up apparently.
I recall something about stronger main crank journal caps or something.
Cheers

Well I found the following info, and the starting numbers for various Grey motors.

FJ numbers at 121694
FE numbers at L283373
FC numbers at L439507
FB numbers at B1001
EK numbers at B175814
EJ numbers at J1001

This might also help with identifying the age of the vehicle, if the original motor is still in the car.

I saw a 138 on ebay with no numbers, buy it and stamp your original numbers, Trev 8)

Can't do that Trev - it won't be the original........... I have pix of it and the various knocks and chips - I'd be able to recognise it - know how some of 'em got done...... I was young and a big hammer got things done quicker than tapping with a small one............

Does anyone know what numbers were used in the Sydney plant started with when switching to the EK's, I know above the general number was B175814, but was that in Sydney, or Melbourne etc,
also as a sideline, how many engines were they using a month, is it possible, does anyone have the information, to pinpoint a rough month of production for the engine to body numbers??
