Rego inspection

Post by jake08 »

G,day all, I have been lurking on this site for a little while, resulting in my purchase of the salmon ek advertised by woody in queensland. It finally arrived the other day and presents as well as it does in the photos. I am now facing the warick pits, however. The car currently doesn't have seatbelts but has been fitted with them at some stage and still has the bolts in the b pillars, so I assume I have to fit them. Does anyone know what sort of back plating/washer I need to fit under the floors when mounting them?
Also does anyone know what the go is with reverse lights? My car is a manual and currently has none, am I going to have to explain to the inspectors that the white lenses on the back are "just for show"?
cheers, Jake.

If your laws are similar to Vic, you won't need reverse lights as they were an option not standard equipement. As for the belts they too were'nt standard issue say you may not need them either.

Maybe give the guy a call who is going to do the inspection and ask him for a straight up no bull answer.

Oh yeah, Welcome :D

Welcome Jake, went over the pits last year, and you don't need reverse lights or belts, they are pretty good with the old not to modified cars, as long as everthing is in good order. just make sure you have the purchase papers etc, i had a bit of a hassle with the old ($1000 cash for fb wagon) they like a bit more info.

G day Jake and welcome,
Should you fit the belts, the backing plates arent worth making. Theyre about $3 each with nut welded to plate and zinc plated, to meet Aust Standards. I got mine from Tony at Perth Aircraft Upholst Specialists 48 Maule Rd Jandakot 94148111 orGraham at Seatbelt Solutions , Welshpool 92583666
Leigh
I would rather work on a Morris 1100 than use a computer !!!!!!

THanks everyone for the info, I think I will just clean the oil off the bottom and take a run at the gauntlet and see what happens- as soon as I can get a day off. It appears there is some sort of inspection booking trial going on so hopefully you don't have to book months in advance. Let you know how I go.

gday all, took the ek down to warwrick the other day, they weren't too bad- but i still have some work to do. The bloke that did the inspection was pretty impressed with overall condition of the car and made some suggestions as he looked it over- they were all listed as faults though. As his suggestions were very vague (the steering is not too bad but needs tightening, not much just a little bit) ? I am going to replace/ restore everthing highlighted as well as anything which could be confused as one of the listed faults.
The only real hassle was some minor rust holes in the chassis in 2 places-the rust has been nuetralised and bogged over. I dont blame whoever did it, the holes are that small it hardly matters but I need to get it fixed, does anyone know of any mobile welders NOR who can look at the car for me? I had a guy come out and do a similar job a couple of years ago but I lost his number.
Hopefully I will get this sorted soon and be on the road and maybe meet up with some of you.

Finally made it over today- with the promise that i would replace rear brake line. The bloke that inspected me today was very understanding, he even let me ride with him on the test drive- a first for me in about six or seven visits! Got there around knock off time and had half the inspectors underneath rubbernecking- seems there are a few of them there with a soft spot for the early girls. A couple of little touches to make it more livable for me and I am ready to motorvate!
For those who were wondering, both times had to book about 3-7 days in advance, which saved a long wait in the line. However if you dont want to book you can still just rock up at kewdale pits.
