Well..anyone else got HUGE movement from their diff?
About 2 years, rebuilt my gearbox (5 speed) etc, and realized that my diff was doing a bit of a dance when i was driving...changing gears it danced a lot. So we tightened up the U shackle bolts..n all was good.
Last year, took motor out, tidied up, put back in, ever since then, have had this horrible vibration at about 75km's an hour and over. Well now the vibration is worse..
It seems the rubbers on top of leafs are pretty buggered, not wearing the same, but the U shackly bolts are loose again.??? BIG groove worn into my diff housing now, need new housing. Do i have tighten up the ubolts every time i drive it or what?? Im annoyed.....
Good solution for this problem would be???????

Hi ekvangirl
ive recently replaced rear spring pad rubbers, and rear shackle bushes - and cant believe the difference drives/handles heaps better
also are you running lowering blocks? and do you have 2 nuts on each thread of the U bolts or lock nuts?
this usually stops them coming undone
cheers ray

ahh..all fixed...
well..what an afternoon....
fixed the problem
removed 3 leaf springs on either side of the van.....took out all rubbers.....welded a fabricated block in and welded the lot together..heheh...
now not only is it low (for those of you that know my van, you will know it did have the serious 70's rake on it), but it rides like a dream.
New U shackles tomorrow..and we're set for Palmer Rod Day
i will post up a pic maybe later on today.....although....i will be getting one in the mail soon... i got done by stupid revenue red light camera last night. grr...

here is what it looks like now
pardon the "clay and mud" on the underbody.....
removed 3 leaf springs from both sides. Removed the rubbers also, and fabricated and welded blocks into there, to go into the notches to fit perfectly. Drives like a dream now.

You should really have some lock nuts on those U bolts
Theres no room on the thread under the existing nut, so
you should put some on above the shock mount plate, to
tighten back down onto the plate after you've done the bottom nuts up tight
Might be why they loosened in the first place.
Cheers
