The Dress Rims went with the Car ... as they should Have
The car was last seen in Glebe NSW in 1996 when it was on the 6pm news as someone had been killed next door to the owner & it was parked out front of the victims house.
That's the last I saw of the car
Hey Tim, we may have to do the Bendigo Nats Via Bris as a reinacment of the Tocumwal Nats
i loved that car, after now seeing many with the flash i think it was the colours that make them, most i could take it or leave it but that car/colour combo was perfect
did it have the ripply alluminium in the flash, it's hard to tell i notice the bits at the front end of the guard aren't there either, my wagon didn't have the ripply bit or the end peices and doesn't look like it ever did
What a great looking car.
And credit to you for saving it.
I wish I had done the same with the wagon, but the damage was far more that what is visable in the photos. With a different attitude at the time I possibly would have.
Years ago, a lot of work in my trade was removing bright work from customers cars and welding up the holes.
All the bits were collected up and sold for scrap.
If only we had saved them.
Great to look back now and say I should have.
In the last twenty odd years I have a better appreciation of the special bits that were made available to personalise a customer new car in the 50's through to the mid 70's
You were driven enough to keep it the way it was.
It has to be out there somewhere, lets hope someone knows where.
Hi SC, The work was done, mainly due to a promise to the old lady that owned the car since new.
She drove the car from her street down to the shops & the church (In the same street) & back once a week! The only time it ever went further was for the Service station which was in the same street just two blocks further.
The Car was hit one Sunday while she was going to church. The car had 17,000 mile on it.
I purchased the car in 1987 & sold it in 1995.
The car came from Fairfield NSW. For memory it sat for ten years covered in dust in her garage.
I have a pic of her out front of her house when the car was leaving.
Hopefully it will surface again!
Your wagon ... If we only knew then what we know now hey!
