Guess you need to way up costs. Can you do alot of it yourself? If not be prepaered to spend big $$$$$$$.

Have you considered a v6? Better space wise and I think Gardiner Conversions in Sydney offer kits (sumps, crossmembers etc..).

Anything is possible just depends on how badly you want it. I was toying with getting that driveline, but I think my aim will be to eventually fit a v6 as it gives more room and is still relatively new...

There is a little too much missin' Nissan in those RB30's for me.
But I do see the reason why you like them.

I've herd they are a big engine (length ways) so you would have to modify the fire wall, the V6 sounds the way to go to me,

For V6 conversions check out: (these would be the best 2 in my opionion not that i've done it!

www.v6conversions.com.au

www.rodsracks.com.au (Qld)

as for the RB conversion i think ipg is putting one into an ute!

other option is deck out the 6, maybe twins, triples, EFI from a VK, turbo or superchargered red etc... plenty of opitions depends what you want & what style suits

Cheers

Wow interesting , i didnt realize they had released a new front end. Pretty impressive !

Matty alot of mods to factor in part from engine which will add up, steering column (need collapsable), radiator, rewiring, rear end ( possibly rear suspension pending hp amount ) fuel plumbing, gearbox, brake and chassis upgrade.

Like nomad says mate , might be easier ( and cheaper ) to add a red motor and go something like triple delortos like these

Also depending on whether its an auto or manual body you may need a new trans tunnel fitted....

motor talk...

Post by mattymartin »

thank peoples...

allright i think i'll forget the rb30 & maybe the v6 at the moment...

i actually love the sound and look of the old motors alot more i was just trying to get some thing that runs on unleaded fuel...

MEPHIOUS, thanks for the link... those triples look nice. can someone tell me what a set of those are generally worth...

NOMAD, my first thouhgt when i bought the car was an efi vk engine... will i need to engineer car for this conversion...

my plan was to spend around $2000. - $2500. on engine... with this sort of budget, where would my money be best spent... on current 186 or efi 202...

is the car registered and is it registered with the 186?
all the late model engine conversions is this for power/economy or one or the other ?
if yor only worried about running unleaded just stick with the red motor, if you want get the head done to suit it's up to you
$2000-$2500 cam head holley extractors four speed auto conversion should even have some change if you can tackle it yorself

thats a pretty reasonable budget to play with, as i see it with the EFI option you have two paths:

first is to keep the current motor in the car and put a vk efi head on it then fit the EFI.

second option is to fit the complete VK EFI motor and then EFI.

if the car has the 186 on the rego papers then i'd stick with that and just fit the VK EFI head, get it modified to run unleaded and while your at it get a light porting job to get it flowing a bit better.

personally i'd go for a full engine reco either option you choose, along with a bit of head work and a cam upgrade you should be laughing and will have a spankers motor ....

the EFI side of things isn't TOO hard .... the first VK EFI conversion i did was in an EK Wagon .... you will need to move the battery to the boot to clear the EFI manifold .... you also need to bash the firewall back just above the starter motor to allow the efi manifold to fit.

you need to fit a fitting in the fuel tank for the return fuel line, but this can be easily done with a high powered soldering iron, flux, centre punch and a brass hose fitting ....

the wiring is reasonably straight forward and is pretty much a stand alone loom that just needs some input from the ignition and a few wires on the coil etc ....

you'll need to get some custom made extractors or modify a set of aftermarket ones ....

if your seriously keen about the VK EFI option have a read through http://www.oldholdens.com/tech/eficonversion/index.php which i've written from my experience with various conversions, it will tell you everything you need for the conversion and a very in depth step by step of how i did it .... if you want to go through with it i'd be happy to help you via email etc or if your local to newcastle i would be happy to lend a hand.

as far as bang for your buck i reckon its unbeatable .... sure its not the best option these days but its cheap and very well worth it.

this is my EK before the EFI
