Quarter Vent Windows

Post by camstuart52 »

Toying with the idea of making these fixed windows, I don't want to get custom front glass and make it one window but these windows leak and whistle.....really just interested in thoughts, opinions, anyone done it and if so the best way to do so and also tell me if I'm being a twat and I won't do it haha

Cheers

My FB daily-driver had the same drama - leaked like a sieve, and whistled. The leak I can live with... the whistling drove me nuts. I cut the rubbers out (they were perished) and bought the replacement ones from Rare Spares.

To replace them properly, you pull the quarter window apart. This is painful, and easy to scratch the paint. I finally got up the courage to do the job, but found that the nuts holding the assembly together were rusted beyond redemption.

I then took the easy way out, and used Theo's method of putting the new rubbers in. You slit the rubber where it passes around the window pivot/spindle, fit the rubber then superglue the little slit. Works a charm, easy to do, looks neat and stopped my quarter windows whistling and leaking.

Ventipanes I believe they are referred to as in the glovebox manual. I nearly cried when HQs and hiluxes deleted these. One of the things I love about these cars. Great for cooling off on summer and demisting in winter. Just don't drive through a swarm of bees at speed with both open full like a mate did years ago.

Well now there a good reason not to put carpet in your car..
Kidding mate.
I solved the whistling problem by buying a thin rubber from Clarks and gluing it where it was making noise, worked.
I doubt if you will ever stop old Holdens and F_o_r_ds leaking... :(
