TWIN BXOV1 SETUP - CONFIRMATION

Post by Lex68 »

Hi all,

I have read the carby enthusiast guide and from what I have read and gleaned from other posts I require to do the following;
(twin bxov-1, on stock 138, manual)

I have 2 venturi restrictors to fit

I need to replace the main metering jets, (smaller size)

I need to replace the power bypass jets, (smaller size)

Do I need to replace the main discharge jet when I replace the main metering jet?

So.......Am I on the right track?........ tried and tested solutions are very much welcomed :econfused:

Cheers n Beers

G'day Lex,

If they were mine, I'd:
a) Check that the throttle bodies have BXOV-1 cast into them, and that the main bodies have 1 1/32" cast into them near the needle and seat. Suprising how many carbs have mix-n-match bodies.
b) strip them down, clean first in kero and then thinners. Blow them out with compressed air, checking all orifices are clear. Avoid the temptation to grit blast.
c) Install a kit in both carbs.
d) install the venturi sleeves.
e) replace the main metering jets with 0.047 jets as a starting point.
f) leave the main discharge jet alone.
g) live with the slightly oversized power bypass valves. They will run a little too rich, but will not lose you any power. If you get a great whoof of black smoke every time you put your boot into it, or if you are constantly running under load then it may foul plugs... that's when I'd invest in the smaller bypass valves.

Cheers,
Harv

Thanks Harv,

Can confirm they are BXOV-1's and 1 1/32's,

They're already stripped down and ready for the kits and replacement jets as you suggested.

(standard stock BXOV-1 KIT) ?

Cheers

Standard BXOV-1 kit, but...
a) be wary of the accelerator pump arms (little kidney shaped bit of steel with three holes in it). The kits normally have the later (red motor) Strommie arms in them. These arms are sloppy as buggery on the BXOV-1 throttle shafts... not worth using. Carburettor Service Co. in Sydney stock the correct arms (and normally supply them if they know the kit is going onto a grey).
b) similar story with the throttle body-to-manifold gasket - the kits supply the "too large" red motor flange gasket. Carb Service Co. again can supply the right ones for a grey.
c) Worthwhile installing the lost motion spring (comes in a small packet, extra to the kit) up top whilst you are there to take out any slop that has come from the last 1/2 -century of use.

Cheers,
