Bonnet Holder Upper options

Post by Finny »

I can see where this has been mentioned a few time in the past. :D
However can't find any evidence of a permanent holder or stay being used. :(

Yes a stick of wood or plastic conduit (as I'm currently using) works OK.
But I would like a more permanent option that doesn't risk gravity, wind gusts or people touching it.
Something that is permanently attached. 8)
Especially if it's anywhere away from home.

So I'm looking at a permanent holder/s to go under the bonnet.
Just wonder if anyone has previously made one and how they did it.

Best option is to make some measurements when the bonnet is open to the radiator support panel and head down to a pick a part and start scrounging, or chase up some replacement bonnet springs. Never had issues with my bonnet dropping so maybe it's just your springs are worn.

yeah I've never had an issue with bonnet droping but I do believe it is one I think I once heard that is why they have an inner spring on them sometimes, I did see one once that had a metal rod as with some later model and jap cars that just clipped and was hinged to the underside of the bonnet
sometimes yor just better off shitting in yor hands and clapping

Gas struts would work.

Howdy Folks,
I did see someone advertising on gumtree recently (located just north of Adelaide, SA) bonnet springs for the FB/EK which had a smaller spring inside the original spring to prevent bonnet sag. Unfortunately I don't have the contact details. The idea might be worth following up with a spring manufacturer/supplier?

I have already lost some paint from the bonnet in free fall.
Yes I have seen the extra springs, but I was looking to create a physical barrier.
I recall the my original wagon would occasionally drop also, if subjected to wind or a knock.
I certainly wouldn't just trust the springs, for example if the bonnet was open for viewing and a small child was anywhere near it.
I do some measuring and see if I can create a two piece locking bracket.
I just thought someone else would have already done one.
