Wheel nut taper

Post by Beerhands »

Hi guys,

Looking at getting some of these bullet nuts for my stock 13 inch rims but unsure if the taper is correct. Would anyone be able to confirm the taper required for the stock steels and if these would fit.

Here is the link:

Those tapers only suit HT onwards. Not many Holden owners (& even fewer mechanics) know about this problem, they just treat all 7/16" UNF as being the same.

FJ to HK nuts have a 45 degree taper, while HQ to WB have a steeper (more pointy) taper.

In general terms, if you fit the later nuts to early rims it destroys the nuts & eventually the studs themselves. If you fit the early nuts to later rims it destroys the tapered seat on the rims. Neither of these is desirable.

Early nuts are getting difficult to find, I doubt you can buy them new & most wreckers I've been to only have the later ones.

So the nut would just feel tight going on, or like cross threaded or something??
