Acrylic vs 2 pac eminem etc...

Post by Mick Jagger »

ok so ive been told by a local paint supplier to get with the times and use 2 pac paint
they have also scared me and have said acrylic is being phased out,
I love painting with acrylic,in my backyard shed ,and have got great results, apparently
is this new stuff better and application easier?? etc
is it possible to do in the backyard, this no shrinkage sounds to good to be true
if im going to have an abundant supply of colours etc in acrylic ill stay with it
or should I be brave and make the step ,
thoughts?

I paint both but prefer acrylic on old cars. To me it looks more real. I cant explain what I mean but the 2pac looks to gluey to me.
If you paint a solid colour in two pac either learn to like the peely finish off the gun or get ready for a heap of slicing and buffing.
Ive had good results with basecoat clearcoat even on solids.
Depending on the brand the clear is a lot easier to slice flat and buff.
What I have noticed with basecoat colours is sometimes it delaminates. I see heaps of cars on the road with the clear peeling off.
I also have a theory that two pac causes a car to rust more.
Just imagine wrapping a car in a big plastic bag that cant breath. Ive got a car at my workshop that was painted a few years ago. Its just bkowing apart with rust before my eyes with no previous repairs underneath. Somebody will tell me im dreaming.
The negatives to acrylic is its susceptible to humdidty and its easily affected by petrol birdshit etc.
If the car is garaged and you are pepared to look after it stick with it.
The positives are its easy to work with and touch up.
I do all my bike work and late model cars in two pac.

They are trying to phase out acrylic paint that's for sure especially in metallic
just tried to get some made up for the fb in metallic as I need to repaint one door and had no luck at all at my local
paint supply shops the story I was getting was nah there is no paint formular for that any more in acrylic  :wtf:
so I called the paint place in Penrith (Autowest) where I got the paint from originaly 5yrs ago  and they said yeah no worries
we get a lot of people wanting acrylic so we keep mixing it they sent it by courier to my door for $25 delivery fee and will mix and send
any amount I got 3lt just incase I may need some in the future my theory is if you got on the shelf you wont need it :shh:

I would stick with acrylic if you can get it I like acrylic

Unless they have resolved the safety issues.

I would think that the demand for backyard painting would be ongoing, and I couldn't imagine one off painters forking out for all the equipment, etc,
My local paint suppliers can still mix up just about anything. :D

I just primed the young blokes ute in a 2 pack primer filler and I feel like I am gonna die - I can hardly breathe .............. maybe acrylic is the way to go
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Didn't you have a mask on Blacky? Everyone. I know who sprays two pack has a mask as a minimum....

that actually isn't good blacky, hopefully it comes good one of the things I got told about with the stuff is it clogs the lungs and once done it stays, I know of a painter that actually got pentioned off because he could no longer work from this and that was just one time without a mask
sometimes yor just better off shitting in yor hands and clapping

Blacky might be worth a checkup if you still feeling that way.

From what I read it's not a mask, but a full resperator system and full body cover.
That's why I didn't think backyarders would never go 2pac.

I forgot to mention. I prepare all my jobs with 2 pac primers etc. If im doing them in acrylic I block the 2 PAC primer and then coat in acrylic primer.
If im painting two pac I paint straight over.
I wear a decent mask with plenty of ventilation. (Usually outside).
Even in a booth the paint fumes get to you.

yeah - was pretty bloody stupid  me mate the panelbeater started painting without a mask so I just assumed it was OK with whatever primer he was using - until after we had finished and he told me "make sure you wear a mask when you block it back , the dust off this stuff will kill ya"    half an hour later I had a rotten headache then felt like I had swallowed a cricket ball until thisarvo when I came good
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.
