EK Wagon Lowering

Post by Beerhands »

Hi Guys,

Currently in the process of redoing the EK and had a few questions regarding suspension and lowering methods.

I have a standard drum brake front end and standard wheels.

How low should a car be able to be lowered without causing issues like tyre rubbing?
Can the front springs be cut (if so what height do you cut off them) or will low springs be needed to be purchased?
For the rear suspension, is it better to use lowering blocks, removing a leaf, flipping a leaf or getting reset to be lower?
What shock absorbers does everybody use/recommend for a wagon?
Does lowering effect what size wheels/tyres I will be able to put on the car?

Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.

For the rear suspension, is it better to use lowering blocks, removing a leaf, flipping a leaf or getting reset to be lower? Trevs famous spring flipping method
What shock absorbers does everybody use/recommend for a wagon? Gas shocks
Does lowering effect what size wheels/tyres I will be able to put on the car? yes

I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

I believe they are 185 75s but I could be wrong. The car is up in QLD with the old man. At this stage thinking of putting 2 inch low springs in and resetting the leafs to 2 inch as they need to be reset anyway. if I am resetting springs anyway would there be any benefit to resetting and then reversing leaves using trevs method or just getting them lowered and reset at the same time? As far as wheels go in the future i wouldn't mind potentially going up to 14 inch steels but will probably still stay with the 13s. With the shocks will any gas struts do. They don't need to be a heavy duty strut?

Cheers for the info

If your getting the springs re-set you may as-well get them lowered at the same time (the proper way).

I had 5" rims with 185/75/14's on the front of my wagon and 7" rims with 215/75/14's on the back and it was pretty low.
But I did have a HR disc front.
