fuel tank cap

Post by jarvo »

Hi All,

Quick question about the fuel tank...

I am about to remove it from the car, and had a look at step 4

"Remove the cap from the tank gauge unit and disconnect the gauge wire"

Does the cap just pries off with a screwdriver and is there a connector under it to disconnect the wire or how the heck do i disconnect it???

the screws holding the tank are also giving me grief about 1/2 have seized and are proving to be a bugger to budge, currently they are soaking in WD40 to help loosen them

Cheers

As for the bolts BEST OF LUCK DONT USE OXY or anything that can create a spark that may blow you up.

Thanks Billy

One of the reasons I'm taking the tank out is to grind and weld in that area. I don't want a little spark blowing me up.

Drain tank... Check
Disconnect fuel lines... Check
Remove all screws... Check
Disconnect gauge wire... Check
Take off filler neck... Check
Tank should now easily lift out.... WRONG!!!!

Bloody thing has been siliconed in.

Hi Alison,

I ended up using a jack and a block of wood to lift up the corner if the tank from underneath. I also used a blade and ran it around the seam. Eventually she popped out.

There was a little fuel left in her, I emptied it and I'm not sure how much was fuel and how much was water. On top of that it was full of sludge. The tank is in worse condition than I thought, will take it to a repairer to see what they say. I may have to get a better one of a forum member or put in a new drop tank.

I posted pics of the sludge and fuel in my gallery.

Cheers
