Sorry guys, possibly a silly question to some, but

As per the thread regarding how to rebuild a fuel sender unit, does it matter what type of metal the rivets are made of when rebuilding the unit.

I would have posted this on the thread itself, but it seems more of an info thread rather than posting thread.

I have taken the van for a few runs now, and as usual a few maintenance things are poping up.

Off work tomorow so this is my list
1 rebuild fuel sender - my idiot light doesnt work on the dash, I assume it is a sender unit issue
2 replace broken handbrake cable - rear section
3 repair minor leak in thermostat housing
4 replace gasket on trimatic pan - minor leak

Should be fun, finally getting my hands dirty.

cant remember offhand, dont they need to be blind rivets ? Aluminium or stainless would be fine I would think ..

Did as Scotty said, but still not working -

Pictured below is a spare fuel guage I have - wondering if anyone can describe where the wires should be, power, earth etc.

On the one in my dash there is only a single wire to the curly contact between both pins (sorry for the lack of proper terminalogy) - is this right. The spare guage is reading full and its not even in a car ??? - might not try using this one.

Have you tried earthing out the wire from the sender to ground?
With the ignition switched to "ON", take the wire off the sender and touch it to a good earth on the body.

If the gauge goes to "FULL", you know that it is definitely a fault with the sender.
If the gauge does not move.........I'd be looking to replace that!

For memory, the wire to the fuel gauge under the dash is as follows...........

PINK +Positive feed off the "ON" position from the ignition.
BROWN - EARTH feed from the tank sender.
GREY + positive dash lighting.

Will give you a call back tomorrow to discuss the other issues.

Have a couple of manifolds here if you wanna get a permit one weekend and come and get them swapped over.....and any other jobs that need doing!
