Repair or replace subframe

Post by rickbantam »

Hey all FB/EK er's,

Need some advice, currently my subframe lhs has the appearance of swiss cheese, although still driving it!! My question is do I repair with new sections or do I try and find a replacement rust free subframe. Also with the stamped serial number is that associated with the vehicle or is it a factory only serial

Thanks all for your knowledgeable replies

I would be repairing it if it's not too far gone, they are getting hard to find so we should be trying to save what we can  .

Thanks Trev,

Just wanted an honest opinion - I know it can be repaired just wanted to be sure that it would be best to keep it original. Just going to be a lot of hard graft but because I love the car it will be worth it

cheers

Where has it gone ? Can you repair it without removing it from the car ? If the car is stil being used maybe you could do a bit each weekend so its not off the road ? If it needs a relacement , grab one now and get it blasted and painted so once the cruising season is over you can get stuck into it so its ready for spring ....
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Blacky its gone around the passenger side outside leg and can put little finger into some of the holes also across the front where I think the sway bar? is attached is in need of attention. Would love to grab a spare good or repairable sub frame if I could find one

I have one here you can have a look at if you like , not 100 percent sure its rust free but it is pretty good IIRC.

Give me a call on 04 1960 61 62 if you want to have a look , I am in Kalamunda.
