Sourcing Steel Sheets for Bodywork

Post by OldMan's Lacky »

Hi all,

Where do I go to obtain some sheet metal that can be used for the body (floor). Rare Spares don't make the panels for this area. I only need one metre square but am not sure if you can rock up to any steel distributor or it has to specialise in car steel? If anyone knows of somewhere in Canberra or Queanbeyan that would be great ...

Cheers.

Any boily shop will either have some or will be able to order a sheet in for you - I use 1.2mm zinc anneal for patch panels in floors etc
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Or you could try sheetmetal shops as you are looking for sheetmetal.

Beware of boilermakers....they are mostly just sheetys with their brains knocked out.

But 1.2 zinc anneal or 1.2 cold rolled(commonly called "bright") would be ideal for the floor.

You may even choose to go with 1.6.

Bright forms a lot easier if you are beating curves or forming swages ,but it developes surface rust quickly.

Zinc anneal has a protective coating of,well, zinc,(its not gal) and is a lot stiffer.
