GT40 or GT40R ?

Post by John »

Im still trying to get a slight miss out of the 138 and have decided to replace toe coil, just cause I can
Not sure if i need the GT40 or GT40R. Stock grey motor in her.
I get confused with the whole resistor thing :? :? :?
Not all chemicals are bad. Without chemicals such as hydrogen and
oxygen, for example, there would be no way to make water, a vital
ingredient in beer

Hi John,

GT40 coil is the go for the standard grey i.e. 12 volts fed to the coil during cranking and when the engine is running.

GT40R is for an ignition system fitted with a ballast resistor i.e. 12volts fed to resistor which is reduced to about 9volts (9V coil) when running. The ballast resistor is bypassed during cranking which then allows 12volts to be fed to the 9volt coil which produces a fatter spark. If you run a GT40R with the standard system you will eventially cook the coil.

Cheers.
