HR drum front pulling to the left
HR drum front pulling to the left
Hey all, first sorry for posting questions about the HR on this forum but the HD/R forum doesn't have close to as many members so i thought i'd get more help here.
So i've had the drums machined and got a brand new set of shoes for the front end. I've also had a wheel alignment done and bled the brakes then adjusted them so that the right side is slightly tighter than the left side and it still pulls to the left. And given that this is my wifes daily driver now i want it to be extra safe! The pull could be quite dangerous in an emergency high speed braking situation.
Any ideas???? I'm all out of 'em.
Should i look at the rear brakes? Could they cause a car to pull?
Also, see the "other cars of interest" section for pics of the wifes new baby.
Thanks in advance!

Re: HR drum front pulling to the left
mate i had the same problem with our ek with hr drum and i swapped everything and it was still doing so i swapped the front drums over and it fix it but thats the only advice i can give

Re: HR drum front pulling to the left
Utek,
Some things that can make the HR pull to one side (knew that workshop manual would come in handy eventually):
a) uneven tyre pressure between left and right side,
b) brake shoe articulating link not free,
c) brakes incorrectly adjusted on one side,
d) loose front wheel bearings,
e) out of round or scored drums,
f) brake linings not similar between left and right side (eg if only one side had been replaced for rego),
g) crap (oil etc) on the linings,
h) loose brake backing plates.
I'd imagine a crappy rubber brake hose on one side could do the same.
Cheers,
Harv.

Big thanks for the tips guys.
Some of those things i've already got covered but there's some i never would have thought of, so i'll get stuck in again this arvo and either cross things of that list or fix it!

Re: HR drum front pulling to the left
I just noticed something, and it may be totally irrelevant, but when looking at the car from the front there is a bit of sag on the passenger side.
I measured from the ground up through the centre of the wheel to the wheel arch and the passenger side was 540 and the driver 560.
Could that be contributing to the brake pull or is it not worth caring about?

Must be an ex speedway car
.
If it is still running the original suspension, some sagging is almost guaranteed. The FB sags a bit to one side, pretty close to the amount you have. I guess it could cause brake pull, but a lot more likely to be the other stuff.

Harv.

thanks guys, i'll check that out....man i wish i had a hoist....
Re: HR drum front pulling to the left
So after having a wheel alignment done, getting the drums machined, buying new shoes, bleeding and adjusting the brakes, buying new wheel cylinders, turns out it was a $30 hose. Had the tiniest split where the hanger spring clamp was.
Oh well, at least the front brakes are all brand new!
Thanks for all the tips and advice guys.
