Trev,
in the late '60's/early 70's - a lot of my mates cut the slot in the trans hump and fitted a "then" floor shift - just a rod with a plate welded to it. It bolted straight to the two selectors..... every one of them eventually killed the selector rods.

The "speco" in-line shifter was the next one to come along. First was a push down and forward, loaded by the spring meant pulling back to second raised the lever and moving back forward again found 3rd. Pushing down against the spring and pulling the lever back gave reverse.

This might be the ones which are on offer.

Of all the blokes I know who fitted them - no one had selector shaft problems. Adjustments seemed to be the only issue... when the unit began to wear.

I had the inline shifter in a very quick Eh back in the seventies (yes i'm old) , Snapped many a selecter shaft , allways when you pulled back for second

Hmmm..... ok, maybe they changed something in the design - or maybe the blokes I knew with them didn't risk a repeat of the old welded plate/lever disaster....
and trod gently with them.
Yes, 1st to 2nd was amazingly quick....... 2nd in most of the EH - HR's my blokes had them fitted to was good enough to break most speed limits...... no point in the gain of 1/100th of a second from 2nd to 3rd...... the old buses had more trouble recovering from valve bounce.....oh! they were the days.......
