Road Trip Texas Route 66 2009
Hi all,
Some people liked my road trip pics so I thought I'd load a few from my trip in texas USA
a couple of years ago. Got my whole family to all go over. Could have bought the best FB or EK with what I spent - but It was worth every cent.
We did 100's of miles on the ole Route 66 which was an immigrant road from Chicago to the growing city of LA
many building were from the 20's & 1930's. many left to just fall down, Some restored
cheers

- This old 34 Dodge is not what it seems. It is an old '60's hot-rod. It has a big block 50's chrysler V8 and later steering. (with original brakes!) Conway Texas

- A restored 'Philips 66' Gas station in the town of McLean texas. This chain made a lot of sales offices look like little houses! The ramp is for servicing - pre-hoists!

- Abandoned Cars & trucks. The old Cusso would be rare here as it was a 6 cylinder with electric overdrive. All ours were 8's -without that option

- What a great photo Opportunity eh? Many people once eat fine roadhouse food here. The trees have since grown and the driveway disappeared.

More Route 66 in Amarillo Texas
"Hey, you ain't from around these parts! Where y'all from? "
I found Texans to be most friendliest in the states. very polite. Especially on old Route 66 which is away from the touristy areas.

- On old Rt 66. Like a place in a movie- huge steaks, hambugers, the best chips and Texas' favorite beer 'Shiner Bock' which is excellent. All served by good looking ladies in short shorts & singlets! Juke boxes, no.plates and all sorts of interesting stuff inside. Hot rods, classic & harleys flock here on weekends - Yee hah!

- Inside is a rare original GMC factory heater. How long do you think it would last if it was a Holden with a Nasco heater in it, over here?

Sweet photos!
We're heading to the US in September and will be driving some of the old 66. Leaving Vegas and joining 66 @ Kingman, across Nevada, overnight detour to stay @ the Canyon, and then back onto 66 through Flagstaff and on.
Should be a great time.

Awesome mate! Its always nice to go to a country that likes Aussies! I tried to stay on the old road as much as possible.
We like to tear things down in Australia, but in the US, they seem to be happy to leave whole structures like motels, roadhouses, gas stations etc. to just fall down in time.
Also, when we make an old single lane highway into a divided road highway, we use the old road and re-condition it to be one part of the divided highway. As for Route 66, (And the US in general) they just build a new divided highway nearby leaving the old road to just fall apart outside large towns & cities, w saw heaps of old abandoned Roadhouses, Gas stations, Motels, Tourist trap shops all along the road. When the road moved, whole towns died.

- Old Roadhouse in Amarillo Texas. The new highway ( I-40)is in front in the culvert with Rt 66 behind - running alongside. This cowboy is just waiting to fall down! We wouldn't allow this in Australia I think!
