Seat belt not releasing

Post by Jayman »

Hi Guys,

I have fitted Hemco retractable seatbelts in my FB and everytime a passenger goes to put the seatbelt on, it will not release for them to pull it out.

This is becoming very frustrating!!!!

Can someone please advise how to fix this???

Thanks

It seems like the belt is locking. It could be the angle it's being pulled out at, or being pulled out too fast (or both).

Either that, or the belt itself is faulty

Depends a bit on the type of reel, though some of the ball-type ones are really touchy about the angle they are mounted on. If they are installed tilted one way or another, the ball rolls easily and they lock (spent many hours faffing around once with inertia reels in the back of a You-and-I  ).

Try unbolting the reel, and seeing if tilting it slightly one way or another helps any (don't forget to tighten it up again).

Cheers,

Sounds like a stupid question, but are you parked on a hill ????
Again, it could be the angle and if the car is parked on a incline, the belts sometimes wont pull out untill on a flatter surface.
