ek wiring with 1uzfe

Post by ek amigo »

Just wondering what most people do with the regulator and other electrical bits when you upgrade the whole engine package . I have remade the old loom exactly like it was and reinstalled it . Do you hook it all back up as it was or get rid of the old stuff. I have a 1uzfe in place with is a whole other story as far as wiring. Does anyone have a wiring diagram showing how to connect the old loom into the new alternator .

Remove what you don't need. You didn't mention if you had actually wired in the 1uzfe yet or not?

If you havent yet wired in the engine and trans, then this is probably the last on your priority list.

the "complexity" of an alternator depends if it needs an excitor circuit or not.. I had worked out how to run an excitor without the need for dash light by replacing the light with a resistor.. anyway this would be last on the list. your engine can run sans alternator if need be.

alternators compatible with a late model engine should be self regulating.. look for a black box on the back of the alternator.

Why were you using a JE Camira alternator Ed ?
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

woefully cheap... small, yet powerful enough to run all the electrics at 60A.

I made a custom low mount that solidly mounted it where the fuel pump normally goes on a 308. It was nestled nicely between the subframe rail and engine block, belt tension was using an idler pulley.

this is about the only pic I have, because you could hardly see it when it was installed.
you can see the idler pulley adjuster doubled up as a fuel pump block off.

Thanks for all that , no the engine and gearbox haven't been wired in , in my naivety I thought it would be 2 wiring systems one for the old and one for the new.
