LPG Grey motor

Post by newman »

Has anyone running a grey motor looked at an LPG conversion?? From what I've read LPG is a higher octane fuel type than the unleaded currently available and even though the government will start phasing in a new LPG tax I'm still considering it. Two reasons obviously cheaper day to day running costs (Not sure if the rebate for the conversion is still running or not) but more importantly to me anyway is the higher octane for modded engines (I'm planning another hotter grey for my ute)

And I do realise its cheaper to play with red motors but I'm happy with my greys

used to have a high octane rating, as with everything they gotta f#%k with it so they make more money out of it  think it goes this way LPG is propane? and they figured they can mix it with butane which knocks the octane rating down
on top of this if you can get good LPG you need very high compression ratio to get the benefit from the high octane gas as you need to compress the the gas more than fuel

years ago a mate had an F100 with a 460 on gas running 14 to 1 compression and they reckon it could have benefitted from more comp  plans were for a supercharger till the F truck found it's way up a telegraph pole  :(
sometimes yor just better off shitting in yor hands and clapping

Hey Newman, JP make a 12.5:1 compression piston for the grey, but they are around $170 each.

I run a standard grey on LPG and do not have any problems but I will admit if I am towing a caravan up large hills I change back to petrol but the cost of normal runnning is cheap.
