Now that I'm set up at the new house with the new shed I've been able to start on the rebuild of the new toy.
Not to many surprises once stripped down the body isn't to bad. Just a couple of unexpected finds.
But at last its off to the sandblasters.
Nothing special, Its going to be my daily driver so I want something relialable and economical.
The exterior will be standard except for the removal of the quater glasses from the front doors, but sitting nice and low, still not sure on the colours yet. I will do all the body work and prep work and maybe get one of the local guys to apply the colour.
After having my own Panel shop for 13 years previously, it annoys me to think I'll have to pay to have something done that I could do with my eyes shut and one hand tied behind my back. Unless I opt to paint it in acrylic instead of 2 pack, then I could do it in my shed.
Anyway all the running gear, will be late model.
Motor is to be a supercharged v6 with stock 4 speed auto. Diff will be &*#@ 9 inch with XF Falcon disc's. Hr front end with HQ stubs and leyland p76 discs. I've coppied the big XB fuel tank idea from a couple of the other guys.
Other things like interior will only be a set of HR bucket seats and mega shiter. But all retrimmed of course.
Most of the parts I've already sourced, including some little special nic nacks like front guard spears, door scrach plates and white face dash guages including clock.
The forum is a fantastic tool for ideas and advice as so many of my plans have been done and proved.
i agree what a top looking body, it's just a shame yor going to wreck such a perfect paint job (my opinion). when it comes to the supercharged v6 a mate of mine has one with auto out of a vt if interested let me know and i'll find out more like k's and such i think he wants around $2000ish complete, also may be a problem where in sydney
Hey that sounds alright, if you wouldn't mind could you find out more about the motor and trans for me.
I was going to buy a donor car to get the bits I need, but if I can get a motor, trans, computer and loom it will save me getting rid of what I don't need.
I've inquired about freight on this sort of thing before and if its on a pallet they will freight it OK.

Somewhere a restorer is having a coronery (sp). I like it! I have done a few for mates, so far a white face/black no's, silver face/black no's and my own which is red face/green no's. It's a nice touch....see below.
Got a pic of the gauge cluster? Would be interested in seeing it.
Speed and Style........... One day I'll get the speed bit.
Real easy, I used rattle cans for the plates (normaly black) and model paint for the speedo. If you want to change the colour of the numbers you will also need oven cleaner (Mister Muscles works well), gloves (to stop oven cleaner taking off all your fingerprints) and a fine brush. You will find once you carefully pull the gauges apart that the numbers are engraved in the plastic. Very easy to paint as you fill them with paint and wipe off the excess giving a clean edge.
The speedo is the most time consuming part and don't forget the pointers and dots on the fuel gauge....

Yeah the oven cleaner is only to remove the paint from the plastic, you can paint straight over the black. The plastic is fine, I was told of this method of paint stripping by a model builder and used it a few times myself prior to attacking the gauges.
