Small Block for EK Wagon

Post by WesternWagon »

Hi All

Received approval for the small block & auto last week and have spoken a the local engineer.
Started stripping the wagon today, will take the whole thing back to bare metal, CRS front end & chassis kit should be here by the end of the week. I have a skyline diff and will run HQ studs.
I will upload some picks when my son gets home as he is more apt at this than me.

Went to the Perth Hot Rod show on Saturday had a good chat with Greg Wilton and she showed me over his super cool FB 2 door sedan. What a machine! And a nice bloke to boot. Apologies to the WA clan for not making the Sunday cruise. (I will do better next time)

Will post some pics today, I am not sure about tubs, wheel sizes are pretty hot they have to be within a certain size of the original diameter.
Have a look on the web links attached

Some pics at the start of the deconstruct, good old oil leaks have kept this old girl with very minimal structural rust

No need to shorten its roughly the same wheel track.
The Skyline is a 4 stud I will send to Final Drive to change the axle flange to give me a HQ stud pattern.
The Skyline disk breaks may stay at this stage, I am looking at adapting Holden rear disks, I have taken photos & measurements and will scour the wrecking yards to find a replacement.
I am told these are pretty strong diffs and are popular amongst the drag racers.

Not too difficult to make an LDS out of the Borg Warner
A lot of grinding to get all the Skyline brackets off.
I see ya in WA, more than welcome to come have a look once its in if ya like.

Slow day today stripped 2 doors and removed some chrome & poped the windscreen.

Kids got me an engine crane for Fathers day so hope to get the motor out this week before I go back to work

Looks like the RH sill needs replacing, and a small section of the LH rear door

Been at work for a week, one to go, looking forward to getting stuck into it this break.

CRS front end & chassis kit arrives on Friday so it should be all there when I get home.

Been told I need a Torana or HQ small block sump to clear the x member, can anyone advise?

Have decided on Twilight Turquoise and Grecian White roof.

Guessing the front end kit is the CRS (Hadfield) modified HR cross member? If so, normal SBC pressed-tin sump fits (at least my 1960 327 one did). Heaps of room around sump, but need to modify the drivers side firewall so that the cylinder head fits (make a 15mm indent with a BFH :D ).
327 Chev EK wagon, original EK ute for Number 1 Daughter, an FB sedan meth monster project and a BB/MD grey motored FED.
