Well well well, please hook me up with some detailed pictures, as it is very tempting to shave my handles before I repaint my doors :)

Yeah I will give the painting a go. My dad painted our 49 prefect in our garage, so I figure why not as we have all of the gear. Armed with Rosco's tips, I will venture into the painting world :)

here you go

in the first pic the little tab that is circled needs to have a peice welded on with a hole in it or put a hole in it, that can be seen in the second pic all you need to do then is attach a rod pointing to the top of the door i used rear door lock rods, drill a hole in the top of the door around the same position as the inner door lock (on front doors) but on the outside, poke rod through put a nob on it, remove external handel weld up holes job done
one problem (that doesn't worry me) you can't lock the doors as the tab that now opens the doors attaches to the inner mechanism so when you press it down it unlocks the door

Very nice guide Mick.
Perhaps I will go the Mr. Bean lock system of a padlock on my door like on his Mini  How do you go about doing the rear doors? Or do you just shave them and open them from the inside?

that's all i do open from inside, not sure of the legalities of that though  NSW rules say have to be able to manually open door from outside
it kinda sucks to be kool (doesn't help being a tight arse) shaved the tailgate on the wagon aswell so now to open it i have to open the front door to open the back door to get in and reach over to open the tailgate from inside
