Custom exhaust manifold for v8 FB/EK

Post by kiid61 »

I've been asked about these by a few members now so for those interested in making their own 253/308 ex manifold heres the ones my old man made up. The DON'T go thru the sidewall and look a hell of alot better that way....

Very similar to a set of block huggers only tighter yeah? How's the clearance steering wise?

Plenty of room for steering DR.. And yeah they are alot tighter than the block hugers. We actually tried a set of those before making these and from memory I think hit the bottom rail....

I dont think block huggers will fit or none were available for Holden V8.

I had to make some up too.. got the bits from Liverpool exhaust. The headers can come out with the engine in place and plugs were all reachable.

not as nice as yours Chopped or Kiid... but do the job.

i did mine old school you cut your piece of tubing over length then weld one end shut
step 2
fill it with sand blast grit (old used stuff will do) keep tapping it gently with a hammer untill it is compacted tight
step 3
plug the other end making sure you have no air gaps i welded another piece on the end
step 4
heat up the section of tube you want to bend make sure you heat it up red hot about 100mm each side of your bend
step 5
in advance find a suitable curve to bend your tube around
the tube will bend with ease (you must keep it red)be sure to make it longer than you need
step 6
after you have trial fitted it many times  burnt your hands and fingers cursed in every language you can speak :x
you will be ready to cut the ends off and tack it to your lazer cut flange
now all you need is another 7 pieces
me and my dad spent 2 days alone just fabricating but i must say its one of those enjoyable jobs once you see them come together :)
i wont go into the collecter welding
i will be doing a set for my 32 coupe and will document it along the way with pics if that is of interest to anyone
in the near future :)

your pipes are a work of art CHOPPED,

never tried the sand bending, you make it sound easy and your results are superb. can you do tight radius bends with that method?

Cheers

thanks for your comments ed
you will be suprised how tight you can bend tubing in this way the 2 basic tips are keep your metal red hot
and keep the tube tightly compacted with grit
take your time
my dad taught me a rule very young in life that i still work to today
take twice as long
make it twice as good :)
