G'day Chris and welcome to the forum :D :D :D ,

Don't know what part of OZ you are from but if you haven't talked to an engineer first and received his blessing to start modifying/fabricating a chassis for a jag rear to his satisfaction then all your money, time and sweat may be all just for nothing when it comes time to present the car for rego.

An engineer can make or break a project and all your input into it!!

If you have an engineer already that is warm to the idea, send him a birthday and xmas pressy each year to keep him onside
I can't think what to write here so this will do.

It will have to be shortened and this becomes a little harder considering its independent and there are arcs and pivot points to deal with .
Its most definitely been done before in 20s 30s Hotrods but I cant agree more talk to your choice of engineer from the registrar

Thanks guys, have not spoke to an engineer as yet am still sorting bits for the ute , but will have to go through one , have a long list for one to sort out , extend cab to king cab, UC Torana front end with HQ brakes and calipers , a 4.2litre V8 with a single Garrett turbo driving through a auto box and of course the Jag IRS .

Have checked with transport and all their paper work ,all good in theory.

Am down in Tassie ,if anyone has the name of a engineer who has worked on this type of stuff before, would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Chassis? Are you thinking of a full chassis or a strengthening kit.

Jag rear ends found their way into quiet a few early Holdens in the late 70's and 80's. Are you after looks, as in lots of shinny moving bits that the people behind you can see going around.
I hope you have deep pockets because the modifications to make it fit and rebuild alone will not be cheap. And you will come up against another problem if you want to chrome plate such parts and use them for street use.

Are you going to stretch the wheel base for your cab extension
With that and the Torana front end, plus your powerplant upgrade you may be looking at an ICV for registration. And that is something I dont think you will be prepared for.

Your wish list is not exactly clear in all the details, and before you do one bit of work. Ring an engineer, if he is interested in doing your project get his approval or requirement list for legal registration on paper and signed by him.Along with a letter from your State registration department with their approval on this build.

Then you can start building.

I agree with smooth customs comments 100%.

In my FJ van we have put a strut front end in it and a Commodore IRS in it. It is always important to get the engineer on side. The ute/van was favored because of the chassis on these compared to a sedan.

If I was to put a IRS into a sedan - I just wouldn't because the engineer wanted a lot more strengthening done and there was a lot more work involved.

G,day Smooth Customs, Will be a chassis / strengthening running from the front sub frame mounting position through the ute for Gearbox, diff mounting and join back in to fabricated rhs sill strengthening on the sides .
I suppose it is not a true chassis but more strengthening as it will be re welded back to the flooring and not the body sitting on it , though it will be replacing the so called rear chassis that is standard in the ute ,that the springs and diff are mounted too .

The cab will be an extra cab style of thing with the rear three piece window moved to the rear and the roof extended between thus shortening the ute tub, dont like extended wheel bases.

I will be going through an engineer , but am getting everything sorted out on paper first so when I contact him I will know exactly what Iam doing to the ute with all details correct ,then we will both know exactly what needs to be done to pass rego.

Thanks for your input ,is most appreciated.

Very glad to see you are liasing with an engineer first before you spend a cent on the project, thats the way to do it!! :D :D :D

Some blokes do what they think is right and then see an engineer only to find some of their time and money has been wasted in unacceptable mods.
I can't think what to write here so this will do.
