This looks cool but have to see if it suits the coupe.

Im a little concerned with the grille area because the body is so far away from original if I change the grilles basic styling too much the car may be getting too far away from whats easily recognisable as an EK

I like the Buick grille , its right on the style I like and seeing as though Id already done the grille on the ute and a Statesman grille in a similar style with stainless thats where its headed .
The peak in the middle will be very mild

look what this grille is on :)

a small amount happened today . ground the door join welds down and stripped the dash ,wscreen posts and door of paint ,then ran out of undercoat.

so I sat back and had a look at the front again and ecided to drop the bumper bar 1/2 to an inch ,move it forward the same and pull it in to the body , then angle the sides slightly away from the centre a little like an EH bar but only mild .
It will be taking on the same angle as the bonnet bar then.

Got both grilles out to make a long lower bar and two stone trays ready to go.

J - you wish

I was contemplating how Im going to go about the tail light area tonight and to be honest am unsure so considered it to be a good idea to throw it up for suggestions .
I hope this picture tells a thousand words and its self explanitory , .
The semi circle shape Id like to blend in this way up to the recessed line on the stainless trim .

I would like to have this part as an easily remade item just incase I get shunted in the future so had considered a sand casting would be the way to go then chrome it.
Could Sputs or Smooth or anyone who has been involved in this area tell me how I should go about making a mould , I have other parts in mind aswell .

Or I could just make it from wire and sheet then have it chromed .

Any ideas or directions would be great because I feel like a fish outta water in this area . Cheers

G'day Harko...
I'm assuming you're going to want a steel cast piece/s so they can be chromed. There are places that can chrome plastics & fibreglass (you'll have to Google it . ) I think I'd go that way as 'glass' is easier. I cant help on cast as I've never done it  . Dunno about Paul..I'll try to find out for you..I do know that they cast the rear chrome strip 'bend' on the Hudson..but that was a lot smaller than the piece you have in mind.

Scotty you're a gun with photchopin!!!! looks like it was meant to be.

Harko I know the boys at John's Rod and Custom have been playing around with sand casting. For a mold they have been using wood and bog to smooth over then taking it from there. One thing though is you have to allow for a little shrinkage. So if you can carve it out of would you'd be half way there :?

Thanks Scotty , by the way mate whenever I come to bring you beers I must stipulate that I am allowed to look through all of your kustom files notepads and grey matter if science allows it :)
Its awesome to have you in here messing with these old cars ;)

Tonight I got on American ebay  (geez that takes ya places) and looked up 50s grilles then 50s dashes , tail lights , packard headlight rims blah blah etc etc .
Ive had a few drinks and bidding is so much more fun , and theres always something about to finish in the good ol US of A

So I bought the 57 Chevs tail lights , some 56 Olds headlight bezzels for the 54 Chev and almost a 57 buick grille

Its bloody gambling , a few of my family play the horses and cards but my prob is car parts :)

Didnt get me any closer to my tail lights and moulds
