The grey motor gearbox is pretty easy to work on, isn't it?

Hi Rob, yeah, it's a pretty simple set up (and I had my laptop in the garage with Harv's write-up  ) Patrick

I had some left over sound deadener, so while the carpet was pulled back, I doubled up on the front bits

I ordered the clutch kit from Automotive Superstore because they came up a fair bit cheaper (and I had a voucher from them as well)

...it turned up today in a sealed Exedy box with all the bits

I wheeled the gearbox back under the ute today

and jacked it up to the engine

before I lifted the engine and gearbox up all the way, I put the driveshaft in and poured about 180ml of SAE90 into the rear extension via the speedo gear hole

Hi Brett,

yeah, I actually put blocks under the wheels as well to stop things tipping sideways - not too bad with a 27kg gearbox - more useful with a 150kg VW engine.

yep, beats making one - there's heaps of cheap plastic aligning tools around for many cars (and lots of kits come with them) but I haven't seen one for a grey - (though it looks like earlybitz has come up with something)

Speeds are the best Patrick! Top service and he has a full set of Rares parts for Holdens in stock. He also has a heap of out of stock things- I picked up the clips for the top door trims last week.
