Can you fit lowering blocks and longer u-bolts to the rear spring pads?Errol62 wrote: Fri Feb 08, 2019 2:50 pmPity it’s not so simple to dump the rear without chassis work.

How much did that lower the front Neil?
get the grinder out and slam it on the ground

Re: Neils Frankenstein Ute
Rear end is narrowed commodore so front is VP dunnydore also already have lower springs in front and the drop spindles will bring it down another 50 or 60mm.
The spring hangers that I used when I narrowed the diff already lower the rear by 50mm, have a look back and you will see them in the diff photos but am also going to see if I can get it lower with lowering blocks have to do some checking on rims and tyres.
The drop spindles I have are specifically for commodore brakes but they make other ones for other brake combos.

Re: Neils Frankenstein Ute
Hi Neil,
Good stuff mate !
I hate lowering blocks they tend to move the springs to much under braking and acceleration because of the increased lever action the diff has in relation to the centre location bolts.
Get yourself another top eyelet leaf and have a spring place rework it so the eyes are on the bottom instead of the top, you know reverse the leaf then bend it back the other way. This gives one inch lowering with the same suspension travel.
Regards Greg

Thanks Blacky will drop in as I have to pick up my headers from the ceramic coating guys, is there somebody I should ask for?
I got the drop spindles on yesterday, didn't want to have to fight with the springs so made up something to keep the springs in while I changed the stubs. Simple but effective
I had HR drum brake stubs with adapter plates for the VP brakes so side by side you can see the difference in position of the axle. Stub axle on And of course there is never a job that gets done where you don't have to modify something, had to take a small amount off the caliper to get it to sit flush against the stub axle plate. All done So after that went back to my wiring a finished connecting up the blinkers, they're now working front and back side to side and actually flashing
The trouble with so much modification and trying to patch different harness's together i find is trial and error, in the original harness the blinker power goes through the flasher can and through the brake switch but that doesn't work with the separated blinker/reverse lights/brake light/tail lights.
Headlight wiring today need to get it working from the modern headlight switch and high beam switch on the column

Hi Neil,
It might be the angle of the photo but are your callipers on all the way ?
It looks as if they still need to go in toward the stub.

Good stuff indeed. No issues with rim clearance to the top ball joint. Wonder how the bottom clears Neil.

Re: Neils Frankenstein Ute
I've got similar CRS adaptors to run VN/VS calipers on the HR disk front. Thought I was doing OK, but the engineer wanted shakeproof washers on all the adaptor bolts... including the countersunk ones.FireKraka wrote: Sun Feb 10, 2019 9:22 am I had HR drum brake stubs with adapter plates for the VP brakes so side by side you can see the difference in position of the axle.

Hi Neil
I agree with EK283 caliper doesn't look right, the outer rim of the disc should follow round to the curved ridge in the caliper, my guess in the earlier conversion they may have machined down the disc. I attached the link to download the dba catalog to give you the diameter of the disc, which I think should be 279mm. I have VS commodore which I looked at before posting this as guide and cant see it being just the photo.

Re: Neils Frankenstein Ute
Hi Guys thanks for the comments on the brakes and after doing a little research I am pretty sure you are right.
Apparently Holden made a 270mm rotor for commodores that had 14" rims and on the calais etc they made a 290mm rotor I also contacted CRS and sent them the photo so waiting to hear what they say.
I will check it out tonight when I get home but it adds up when you look at it. At least it wont hurt the pocket too muc around the $100 for the larger rotors.
Also picked up my headers from getting ceramic coated they look great and I didn't realise that they also coat them inside.

If you can tear youself away from your work
Hope you dont mind how much to get them coated and what preperation did you have to do.
