Thanks for the heads up i must have missed this watching your build , did you bend the ve part 90 deg and weld it to a flat plate that's cut to the bonnet shape. ?

Yes cobber, that is correct. I think Brodie plug welds the holes in the original mount and then welds a bit onto it to extend it. Either way works, if you do it my way make sure you leave as much of the vertical plate as possible otherwise the end of the rod will hit the base plate.

So, is it normal for the L and R tail light housings not to be located in the same position?
Drivers side about 3mm lower?

Fit and finish on these old girls is nothing like a modern car , but that doesn’t look right , has it been repaired on that side previously??

Guess you’ve tried loosening everything and jiggling it up? Not right.

The lower quaters have been done on both sides, that is it.

Both tail light housing appear to be mounted the same. Do they have rubbers that go in between the housing and body? If they did it would possibly allow me to align the drivers side better.

You can see in the two photos circled in red they both appear to be aligned the same. I can't see that the drivers side can go up without it then not aligning in the section within the red circle.

I wonder if it is in the casting....ImageImage

Swap the lights side to side Taz. That will verify the casting variance. They are interchangeable side to side. Are they the original lights from the car??

I was thinking the same about being the original housings as they aren't. I have the originals and will try them to see how they fit.

Check there hasn't been a repair on that left side fin and a little extra filler added as well could make the difference - The castings are so variable though it could just be the difference between an original casting and a re-chromed one - some charmers sand back waaaay too much before re-chroming - learn't that the hard way.

Someone call in the admin LOL.

I had a look tonight, and ran a steel rule over things. It actually looks like that drivers side has more lead in it at the point.
The housings all measure the same and the guards appear to be identical.

So made a start on the fuel tank and fitted the air vents in the centre console. Hope to get a bit done over the christmas break.ImageImageImage
