picked up some front indicator lenses ... I had planned on keeping the old ones until I saw that new ones are much clearer

also found a Lucas headlight with a good reflector

while I was at it, I checked the voltage at the headlight and found the earth to the body wasn't great. initially I cleaned it up; but, I went back and changed it (much happier with using the surface area of the screw head as well - instead of just the threads)

I assume you are talking about the Lucas headlights - yeah, I could have gotten a couple of H4 headlights or sealed beams - but I didn't :smile11:

maybe next time

lots of roos out my way so i upgraded the loom and added h4s for not much money. did the same treatment to my ute and it looks pretty factory, its not disco like a lot of the conversions out there, but a helluva welcomed upgrade. You do you, Patrick.

Give Anthony a call. He does halogen bulbs to suit the Lucas frames. Bright, but do not draw enough current to need relays. Made a big difference to Grace’s ute.

Funny this, I just dusted off 2 sealed beam boxes I've had since 2006 from a swap meet and the brand is Wagner.

I cant find where they are made but they look ok, wattage is 50 and 60 so probably ok for original wiring.

thanks for that Harv ... I'll wait and see for now ... not sure if I'll need to drive the ute at night - but good to know the halogen bulbs are available. Patrick

I changed mine over to the Rare Spares H4 conversions - they are heaps better - there was no mention of needing a relay so hope that is all ok - haven't been used in anger yet.

Yeah maybe, just thought that there are options for original wiring. Mine by the way is not original so I can change the wattage at a later date.

I used sealed beams yonks ago and I still have them somewhere and at the time seemed ok for both the original wiring and for brightness, I will try and find those as well.
By the way what was the original globe wattages ??

Just looked it up 50/40w, pretty dull I must admit.

The Bosch lights seem better to me but globes are bit hard to get. Doubt I’ll be driving the highway in the dark much but it’s 80kmh and plenty caffeine.

I did run the old flat lens HZ style H4 in my sedan without relays bud definitely need an alternator, and the looked wrong. Believe there are more original looking versions now.

You’ll know you’ve got too many candles if the thermo switch (part of the headlight switch) kicks in and makes the lights flicker. The wattage required to do this varies with temperature, but is between 22 and 30 amps (rough). To pull 22 amps (11 amp per bulb) will need roughly (12.5V x 11A =) 138W globes. A set of 130/100W bulbs might do it.

Harv
